If you suspect that the agent isn't starting up correctly, it's often
worth running it
using:
snmpd -f -Le
and reporting any error messages that you see.
If you have debugging facilities on the target box (which is perhaps
unlikely with an embedded system), then it can also be useful to run
the agent under a debugger (with the same command-line), and report
the backtrace and program listing when it falls over.
