Both of these are perfectly reasonable suggestions.
However, it's too late in the release process (IMO) for them to be
included in 5.4
These feel on the borderline between "bug fixes" and "new features".
I'd be happy to see them included for a later 5.4.x release, but
personally I'd say this comes the wrong side of the line for the 5.4
release itself.

Others may disagree, naturally.
