I'm inclined to agree with Thomas.  I think it would be preferable if the
ChangeLog file contained a history of the changes that were relevant to
that particular branch - i.e. the code that accompanied the log file.
Rather than the project as a whole.

I haven't looked at the text of the ChangeLog recently (thus proving your
other point, I s'pose) - but if you're including 5-3-patches log entries, then
in the majority of cases, surely these will just duplicate the corresponding
main branch entries?
   (Since a lot of fixes get applied to both lines at the same time)


And for the particular cases where a patch is *only* applied to the 5-3-patches
line (presumably since the code has changed for the main line and the fix
is no longer relevant), then listing that patch in the main-line ChangeLog file
is more likely to be confusing, rather than helpful.
