Thank you very much for the quick response!  I did search through the list but 
only found one related question when the search keywords were "Solaris snmpwalk 
syntax".

I will search again to see if any getopt() related discussions come up.

Apart from that, the reason is probably the different getopt() implementations
used on Solaris vs. Linux, as discussed on the lists before.
