In principle, the client side should support it as well.
However, "range registrations" have not received much
attention on either client or server side, so I wouldn't
be at all surprised if there are outstanding bugs in
this form of working.

Robert is the expert on the MfD framework, but I
strongly suspect that it doesn't naturally support
single-row slices.   Most of the agent development
has been done with complete tables - there's been
relatively little attention paid to row slices.
  So I'd be fairly surprised if the MfD code handled this.
