The 5.4.1 source tree contains three files that are relevant here.
NEWS (which Thomas has already mentioned), CHANGES
and ChangeLog. These contain increasing detailed information
about what has changed in any given release.
NEWS is the headline changes - just the most significant stuff
CHANGES typically lists the patches and bugs from the project
tracker system that have been applied/fixed
ChangeLog is a list of all the SVN revision comments, indicating
which files have been changed (when, and why).
