If you are compiling from source, why on earth are you retrieving a four-year old version of a line that is no longer supported? It's not even the most recent version of the 5.1.x line! We have put a *lot* of work into the code since then, so there are lots and lots of bugs that have been fixed. Why work with an obsolete code version? Try going to www.net-snmp.org, and retrieving the 5.4.1 tarball.
