What do you mean by a "usual string"?

The ANS.1 type "OCTET STRING" is
the type used for representing any
octet-based value - essentially anything
other than a number or an OID.

This includes both printable strings
and binary string values.

A text string is a perfectly valid example of an Octet String.
No conversion is needed.
