Hi, I'm running snmpd on my openwrt firewall (WRT54GS hardware which has 1 WiFi interface and 1 NIC wired to an internal VLAN switch connecting to 5 external Ethernet ports usually configured as 1 WAN and 4 LAN) my ADSL connection is a separate router (Westell 7400) which doesn't support SNMP or any other "easy" way of extracting counters, but it *can* be persuaded to send a multicast stream containing the ADSL stats.
Last year I worked with the developer of the wdiag software to add my particular model of Westell router, and to make the software able to listen on a specific IP address so it can run on a dual homed machine such as my firewall. I'd like to be able to collect and graph my ADSL stats into cacti, I'm aware of various ADSL MIBs, RFC2662 seems to cover all the stats I have available e.g. the westell utility currently outputs the following to stdout Uptime Counter: 1239799591 Upstream SNR: 80 Upstream Power: 78 Upstream Attenuation: 315 Upstream Sync Rate: 832 Downstream SNR: 135 Downstream Power: 168 Downstream Attenuation: 550 Downstream Sync Rate: 1984 FEC Errors: 25535 CRC Errors: 289 HEC Errors: 0 Signal Lost: 42 Frame Lost: 0 Tx Cell: 104353 Rx Cells: 1056873 Dropped Cells: 1064 Rx Ethernet: n/a Tx Ethernet: 0 Discarded Ethernet: 0 I don't know whether the snmpd agent's perl or sh/exec methods are suitable, or if it would be best to create a loadable MIB library that directly listens to the multicast stream, rather than spawning a child process to do it. The Westell routers aren't exactly the most popular device around, so I doubt it will have too many takers. Any suggestions for good way(s) to go about this? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by: High Quality Requirements in a Collaborative Environment.
