For several years now, I've been muttering about identifying and consolidating
what we mean by the "core API" for the Net-SNMP project. We've had a set of
top-level header files ready for this, but they haven't really been
used as such.

I've just commited a set of changes to the include/ tree, which moves what I
would consider to be the heart of the core API into these top-level header
files (together with a reworking of the man pages to match).
There are suitable cross-includes in place, so that anything still using
the tradition header locations (like everything!) should still work. And
the tests that I have run seem to indicate that nothing in the standard
source tree should notice the difference.

But hopefully this can stand as the beginning of a process to clarify (and
properly document) exactly what APIs are available to developers using
the Net-SNMP suite.

Sorry for the late notice, but it struck me that I'd really like to see this
finally make some progress (after 7 years of waiting!).
And preferably as part of the 5.5 cycle - hence acting now.

I now await the cries of anguish....

Dave
