Wow.  That's a very interesting problem!  Personally, I have no idea
what would cause it.  It sounds to me like an issue with bad memory
somewhere but I couldn't even guess where.  The only real way to find it
would be to attach a debugger to it and see what happens when the packet
is returned.

If you're willing to send me two of the packets from the tcpdump file
I'll look at them and see if I can see anything wrong (I'd send them to
me personally since they'll obviously contain important information).
Ideally, nuke the community string out of it though (replacing with Xs
or something).
