I sure hope that the MySQL library does not try to print any error 
messages by itself.

It seems that the jury is still out on this problem ...

It should not be difficult to let configure check this. I will look into it.

Btw, it seems that MySQL gets the program name anyway, as it is able to 
pick the correct section from the .my.cnf file.'
