Hi Josh, I'm the original founder of the Net-SNMP project, but I'm not a lawyer. Craig pretty much nailed the analysis perfectly in my opinion:
> net-snmp is licensed with multiple different types of licenses, as seen in the > COPYING file[1]. The licenses can be broken down into several types: > BSD-LIKE - Very close to a standard BSD 3-clause > BSD 3 Clause - Your standard BSD 3 Clause[2] > The perl directory uses Artistic-1.0[3] or GPL-2.0+[4] Open source projects can be difficult to analyze fully because they're contributed to by a large number of people. We've required that all contributions to the project fall within the BSD license, as pointed at above. Some perl code is included that falls under the perl license, as Craig pointed out. > Reading the license agreements, I did not see anything that did > not permit use of net-SNMP by the US Government. However, I would > like to request approval for use from net-SNMP to ensure we are > not crossing any legal boundaries with your software. I can solidly verify that Net-SNMP is used in multiple places by multiple governments, including the U.S. government. In fact, some of the features within Net-SNMP came from government funded research contracts. > In addition to the requested approval for use, can you please > verify that the software is UNCALSSIFIED (for our documentation)? Nothing in Net-SNMP's documentation or code has ever been classified by any government. -- Wes Hardaker Please mail all replies to net-snmp-coders@lists.sourceforge.net _______________________________________________ Net-snmp-coders mailing list Net-snmp-coders@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/net-snmp-coders
