Well, nobody's perfect. I was focusing on the conditional, and not looking
at
the code inside the conditional. The conditional was right for getting the
first row, but it looks like I was merged two conditionals, one of which was
resetting the column. Since I probably always tested with the first column,
it
worked ok.

The attached patch (which has already been applied and will be in 5.1.2)
breaks
the conditional back into two steps, and should fix the problem.
