Not too surprising - the # is a comment character.
Try quoting the string.

    rwcommunity "#<b>Hi!</b>"

This works as expected.

The same is *partially* true of communities that contain a space:

        rocommunity   goodnews badnews

will be rejected with "Error: bad source address"  (trying to interpret
"badnews" as an IP address).

        rocommunity   "goodnews badnews"

will be accepted OK.
Unfortunately, the parsing of this later is broken, so

        snmpget -c "goodnews badnews" localhost sysLocation.0

will fail, but

        snmpget -c goodnews localhost sysLocation.0

will succeed :-(

I'll try and get this fixed ASAP.
