I am trying to understand the make files for Net-SNMP,
so as to port the tool to an embedded Linux environment.
It is important that the build process not result in
an installation of the tool to the host development
environment, which is RH 9. It would be nice to avoid
modifying the existing make files, and instead to build
a set of make files specific to my immediate task - and
that is to build the tool for the embedded environment.
So, of most importance is the ability to build the daemon,
the master agent, for Kenati. My expertise is not the
design and development of make files, and though I have
built some in the past, this limitation makes delving
into the existing make files a bit overwhelming. Might
it be possible to obtain a list of those files necessary
to the construction of the daemon?

This is the first day that I have devoted time to this
issue. I will, of course, take more time to review the
various make files, especially that which is contained
in the ./agent directory. One might deduce that the
make file in the ./agent directory is the logical place
to start but, my hope is to develop a documented process
for porting (hence, my questions are sometimes more for
the benefit of others, than for my benefit).

I plan to post details of my experience, so that the
process might be documented for others who later try
to port the tool. So, a rich set of replies is sure to
be of benefit to the community of Net-SNMP users.

The importance of perl to the build process is also not
clear, so some relevant commentary is also appreciated.
