Sorry there doesn't seem to have been a response to this. Is this particular problem still active? Which version of the code are you working with? At what point is "configure" choking? I.e. what's the last thing that is displayed? If you have a look at the file 'config.log', this should indicate exactly what is failing, and the precise grep command that's being run.
