Hi,

Let me start by saying that the entire SNMP concept is new to me in a way that
this is my first hands-on experience with it. The story so far in a nutshell:

I've installed net-snmp 5.2.1 on 3 servers,  one is a linux (that runs net-snmp
v5.2) and the other two are win2k servers. All of them run the snmpd and send
traps to a central server which runs an snmptrapd.

When i issue the following command: snmpwalk -v2c -c public -Ci LinuxServer1
prTable , i get a nice overview of processes that are monitored:

UCD-SNMP-MIB::prTable = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prIndex.1 = INTEGER: 1
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prIndex.2 = INTEGER: 2
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prNames.1 = STRING: apache2
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prNames.2 = STRING: nano
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prMin.1 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prMin.2 = INTEGER: 1
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prMax.1 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prMax.2 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prCount.1 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prCount.2 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrorFlag.1 = INTEGER: 1
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrorFlag.2 = INTEGER: 1
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrMessage.1 = STRING: No apache2 process running.
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrMessage.2 = STRING: Too few nano running (# = 0)
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrFix.1 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrFix.2 = INTEGER: 0
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrFixCmd.1 = STRING:
UCD-SNMP-MIB::prErrFixCmd.2 = STRING:

As seen in this list, a prErrMessage is created for both monitored procs. But
when i issue the same command to query a windows server, this message isn't
generated. Even though the processes aren't running. I've setup the respective
snmpd.conf like this:

proc  IEXPLORE
proc cmd

Which should at the very least set the prErrMessage(.x) if i don't have any of
these processes running. Unfortunately it doesn't :(

Like i said, i'm very new to SNMP and chances are high that i'm doing something
completely wrong. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

Lon
