It's just a generic string.  It actually uses a special encoding
defined in the RFCs for putting a string in an engineID.  What you
should know is that the engineID it uses on the wire will *not* be
exactly what is sent on the wire.  If you really wanted to do that you
you'd have to use the oldEngineID token, which isn't really meant for
user usage so you should know what you're doing.
