Mib2c seems to be working now.
At first, I was having problems with some of the snmp libraries because
Fedora Core 3 had been installed with its own version of Net-SNMP on my
machine. Apparently, there were conflicts between the installed 5.1.2-11
version and the 5.2.1.2 version that I had installed by hand. I resolved
this problem by following the procedure outlined in a previous post
(1/13/2005 - Shuki Sasson):
rpm -e net-snmp-utils-5.1.2-11.i386
rpm -e net-snmp-devel-5.1.2-11.i386
rpm -i net-snmp-5.2.1.2-1.fc4.i386.rpm --force --nodeps
(I also had to delete the Freeradius package, due to dependencies. )
The FAQ mentioned that 'make test' errors may occur due to "some minor
inconsistancies with the between my setup and the test environment", so
this may have been why the error was generated.
The reason mib2c could not see my mib appears to have been because I
placed my new mib in the /usr/local/share/snmp/mibs directory. When I
copied it to the /usr/share/snmp/mibs directory, mib2c found it and all is
well.
