OK - let's step back a bit. How *exactly* have you configured the snmptrapd command? What configuration file have you got - where is it and what are the contents? I presume you compiled 5.3 yourself - exactly what did you do? How are you starting it up - what is the exact command you're using? You say that it's not opening the port to receive the traps. How are you determining this? What is the exact command(s) that you run to check whether the receiver has opened the port or not?
