Hi, Dave:

2) Is it a big deal that I removed /var/agentx/master?

No.
The socket itself ("master") should be removed automatically
when the agent shuts down. So it might be worth checking
that no other SNMP agent is currently running.

Alternatively, how do you shut down the agent?
*Please* don't tell me you use "kill -9"!
What's wrong with shutting down agent with "kill -9"? What does it
   indicate?
I ask because currently my agent (a master agent, not a subagent) can only be shut down by "kill -9". It is launched with "-f -L -M -D" as a thread on RH by a main program which will then connect to the data source to get data. I'd like to know the impact of using "kill -9" and the correct way of terminating
   an agent.
   Thanks.

3) How can I restore /var/agentx/master?

Just start the agent (as root).
As long as it's configured to run as an AgentX
master, it should create this directory/socket
automatically.

Do you have the line

        master agentx

in your snmpd.conf file?

Dave
