Please make sure you have "master agentx" (instead of the two wrong variants
above) in your config file. Run the agent with "-Dread_config" to verify that

Thanks for spotting that. That's what the problem was! The example-demon now outputs:

NET-SNMP version 5.3.0.1 AgentX subagent connected
