That's not sufficient details. What's the exact content of your
snmpd.conf? Does a full snmpwalk ("snmpwalk ... localhost .1") succeed
and does it show entries for the HP enterprise tree?

Yes, I'd do that because it's not unlikely that the (failed) detection
above referred to your ucd-snmp installation.
