The good news is that your Proliant probably shipped with a collection of software called Proliant Essentials -- a box full of CDROMs. The Insight Management Agents contained therein will expose quite a lot of this information via SNMP. They're written specifically for your hardware and understand it thoroughly.
The bad news is that HP tends to be years behind the curve with respect to Net-SNMP. The Agents will probably work with modern versions, though -- they are automagically recompiled at startup every time you change almost anything about your system, since they plug in via dlmod. I haven't tried to make this work in some years, so I don't have specific advice for current releases. (Does anybody know where to send a copy of the AgentX spec. to HP that will get serious attention from someone who can make things happen?) -- Mark H. Wood, Lead System Programmer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Typically when a software vendor says that a product is "intuitive" he means the exact opposite.
