Hey Guys, I apologize for the back-to-back posts, however... I've been trying to get my brain around net-snmp all day! And it's driving me nuts!
I'm trying to get net-snmp configured, so that I can use it with/within OpenNMS. At the end of the default /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf , I have the following: ############################################################################### # Further Information # # See the snmpd.conf manual page, and the output of "snmpd -H". # VACM configuration entries rwuser initial # lets add the new user we'll create too: rwuser opennmsUser # USM configuration entries createUser initial MD5 setup_passphrase DES Then I run: [EMAIL PROTECTED] snmp]# snmpusm -v3 -u initial -n "" -l authNoPriv -a MD5 -A setup_passphrase localhost create opennmsUser initial And receive: snmpset: Unknown user name And I cannot understand WHY?! I have even taken the Windows approach and removed the net-snmp/utils/libs RPMS and installed them again.. just to try and establish default... but even that doesn't work. All help in UNDERSTANDING what is going on is appreciated. I don't know why snmp is so hard for me to understand. -jeff ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
