        Most management software will handle LAN, WAN, and beyond.  As long as 
the SNMP packets can get there and back, you should be able to get your 
information.  One thing to keep in mind is that the amount of data to transfer 
should be a small portion of the connection bandwidth, or you may have trouble 
keeping updated.

        There's a ton of these.  You may want to look at OpenNMS for a free 
solution, and a good way to get started, but for mission critical monitoring 
you may wish to consider a pricier system.
