One thing i've stumbled upon when using Perl with pass_persist is
Perls output buffer. Make sure you use something like:

  # Disable output buffering.
  use IO::Handle;
  STDOUT->autoflush(1);

or:

  # Disable output buffering.
  $| = 1;

to disable the buffering of output to STDOUT.
