Found the reason for this. Somehow, the snmpd does NOT understand interface 
names longer than 8 symbols (chars).
And when you have aggregated links with vlans on it, e.g. bond0.900
you will have a problem. One issue to solve this is change the vconfig tool 
naming context to vlanXXX for example. However, its a bit difficult to do this 
in a production environment, so my question is can the length of if names in 
the snmpd be changed?

I am trying to get snmpd working on a Debian Lenny, it starts ok but as soon as 
started the snmpd reports ioctl 35123 returned -1 and after a while ( less than 
a minute ) it exits. I tried the -V option but no additional output is given. 
The machine is used for pppoe concentrator and has two bonded interfaces ( 
Aggregated ) and vlans defined on the one of them. I suppose the naming of the 
interfaces is the problem, but am not sure. 
Any suggestions or ideas would be highly appreciated.
