Hi All!
We just installed SolarWinds 9. In previous versions it was calculating
the CPU usage from UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuIdle. According to the
UCD-SNMP-MIB file this along with the other "non-raw objects" was
deprecated in Sept 2002. However, it is still being read by SolarWinds.
On one machine we have Redhat EL 5 with net-snmp 5.3.1.
UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuIdle is being written because I can cause CPU
activity and both SolarWinds and snmpget show increased CPU
usage/decreased CPU idle.
Another machine has RedHat EL 4 with net-snmp 5.2.1. I create the same
CPU activity and neither SolarWinds nor snmpget indicate any change.
If the OID is deprecated, it does not make sense to me that the older
version (5.2.1) does not write to the OID, but the newer version
(5.3.1) does write to the OID.
The ultimate goal is to be able to monitor CPU usage and send alerts if
it gets too high. However, because SolarWinds is reading a deprecated
OID and it does not seem to be consistant between versions, we are
having trouble coming of with a single method of collecting the data.
Any input is appreaciated.
Regards,
Jim Mohr
