The simplest approach would probably for your application to register as an AgentX subagent, and send a suitable AgentX notification request to the master agent. This would then send out SNMP notifications to the appropriate trap destinations. I'm pretty sure this has been discussed recently on the mailing lists. Have a look in the archives.
