The structure of an SNMP request is fixed. Community-based SNMP requests *must* include a community string in the appropriate place. > Can it be of zero length? In principle, yes. A zero-length string is a perfectly valid string, and is legal within the SNMP specs. With the Net-SNMP toolkit, this will either be "public" or the empty string, depending on how the code was originally configured.
