I would question whether that is a sensible approach. Handling the hardware-specific information format is traditionally the responsibility of the (sub)agent. The point of SNMP is to protect the management application from this level of detail - particularly since different vendors equipment (or even different releases of kit from the same vendor) may well report what is essentially the same information in a subtly different format. But it would probably be helpful if you could provide a concrete example of what information the chip actually reports, and what this means.
