> There should be a reason why the address is sent across in V1 traps , > if so , why it is removed in the V2 Traps? Because not all hosts have IPv4 address. Also, hosts may have multiple IPv4 addresses. The inclusion of an IP address in v1 traps was quickly realized to be a mistake. The new strategy is to identify the SNMP engine that generated the trap. This has lots of benefits, which I don't have time to elaborate. The NMS is responsible for identifying the engines it is managing and keeping track of their egineIDs, so when a v2 notification arrives, the NMS will know which address or set of addresses (it is valid for an SNMP engine to manage multiple addresses, or how would roiuters get managed?) it comes from. > We all know there is no acknowledgment for V1 Traps and the same is > true with V2 traps , except Informs I guess. So how to implement > Informs? In net-snmp, informs are already implemented for clients and master agent.
