  Are you sure that the host running your net-snmp agent has the OpenSSL
libraries, and that the agent was built to link those libraries?  These
conditions must be met in order to use any authentication (guess how I
know? ;).

  Try running this command on your agent host:

net-snmp-config --configure-options

  If the results contain '--without-openssl' then you need to rebuild
snmpd.
