The normal
./configure
make
make install
process should identify the necessary files for this, but is really aimed
at installing the package on the current system, rather than producing
a package that can be copied to other systems and installed there.

The first question to ask, is what O/S are you working with?
Different O/S's use a variety of package mechanisms,
and it would be sensible to target the natural packaging
system for the environment that you are using.
