I am having issues getting the Net-SNMP agent to allow me to change
passwords.
Problem 1: I initially set up 3 default r/w users in the snmpd.conf file
with the createUser commands, and after starting the server, it wrote the
encrypted version of the passwords into the snmpd.conf in my persistent
directory. I tried then to remove the cleartext create user commands from
the configuration snmpd.conf, so that they weren't just out there, and upon
restarting the server, it overwrites the snmpd.conf in the persistent
folder with no passwords.
Problem 2: I wanted an easy way to change the passphrases for a given user,
preferrably through code, however there doesn't seem to be a single c/c++
example on the internet of doing this. So I fell back to trying to use
snmpusm, which kind of works, but not quite. It allows a new user to be
created with another user, and then the password changed. However, you
cannot change the password of any initial user, as documented in problem 1,
or the newly created users after the snmpd has been restarted.
I am concerned that this could have something to do with the fact that I
have a readonly file system with exception of my persistent directory that
I specified in ram.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Kevin
