I am a beginning user of Net-SNMP.
I am trying to use the Perl module from Net-SNMP 5.5. I have been successful
in sending v1 and v2 traps. However, I am running into a problem with v3 traps
using the Perl module. I have successfully sent traps from command line using
sendtrap (v1, v2 and v3).
Snmpd is running (verified by command-line). My username was added by
create_v3_user and I verified that it exists in snmp.d.
I think that the problem is related to not having a valid authoritative engine
Id. However, I don't have this problem from the command-line net-snmp. Is
this a configuration issue?
I am monitoring the destination machine with wireshark. I am seeing SNMP traps
come in with v1 and v2. However, my v3 trap is doing a get-request. The
destination machine is replying with "report SNMP-USER-BASED-SM-MIB:
usmStatsUnknownEngineIDs" (as seen in wireshark). The get-request message show
a missing authoritative engine ID. I don't understand why a get-request
message is being sent. Btw, Spectrum is on that destination machine.
Any help in ideas for troubleshooting this problem would be appreciated.
