Hi there,

some applications (i.E. Installers) search Volumes by Name when searching for their
files. So, if one wants to do a round-trip install (on old machines w/o CD-ROM drives,
for example) he has to change the name in the appropriate AppleVolumes file.

Is there a chance for afpd to get the volume name from an already mounted HFS Volume?

I saw that /mountpoint/.AppleDouble/.Parent contains it or is it better to let hfs_fs
(0.95 is current, AFAIK) do part of the job? To be precise, create
/mountpoint/.volumename for which afpd looks?

And final, if an (special-named?) entry for this mountpoint is found in .AppleVolumes
could afpd substitute this with the name found in .volumename or in the first way?

:wq! PoC
