Dear Netbehaviourists

(*-*-*- Sorry marc, I could not record the News from Where We are Podcast, but his message aims also also at keeping the updates flowing! -*-*-*-)

A few weeks ago, Theresa Fend, from OuiShare and RebelForLife, shared with me James Arbib & Tony Seba’s Rethinking Humanity report that came out in June 2020. Together with her and Sara Zaltash, who is an artist, spiritual facilitator & thinker who I met at the Alter Ego gathering, we started dreaming about hosting a conversation with a diverse group of people outside the western bubble to explore what it means for us in a call this November.

If you are interested answer our survey and find more info below!

The Report

Tony Seba very accurately predicted major shifts in tech and economy in the past decades. The report explains how systems have evolved throughout history, and why we’re on the brink of either a collapse into a new dark age or a new civilisation. In a nutshell they predict rapid tech disruption in the fields of transport, food, energy, information & materials in the next 10 years that will lead to a collapse of the current economic systems in the currently dominant countries/regions. They say disruption will come from places in the fringes and will completely transform our societies.

All the technologies described are more sustainable and give rise to a new decentralised system, but at the same time don’t per se foster any human or cultural transformation and could lead to a huge accumulation of capital and power for a few.

You can download the report here and also listen to this podcast with Tony Seba where he brings some of the implications of his thoughts to point.

Our take

Sara and me encountered the report in the context of the Alter Ego gathering in France this September. We felt a mix of sceptical and excited and curious what people beyond a predominantly European bubble would make of it. Ricardo joined our group shortly after.

We received the report with a lot of scepticism but also felt it’s potential to shift our perspectives. If we accept that it might hold some truth, it would imply that our work as change makers & activists is not about catalysing change but about anticipating and shaping a transformation that is already on its way. It would also mean that the disruption would come from places that are currently not part of the, and of course h

Questions that are coming up for us are:

  • What do we make of this report as a global community? What are our thoughts, triggers, doubts, opportunities that are coming up?
  • What implications would these predictions have for different parts of the world?
  • How could we bring in the human, ecosystemic and cultural components into these shifts so we don’t move towards some kind of tech dystopia?
  • What would it mean for activism and change-making in the next 20 years?

The invitation

We would like to host a call, inviting people from all parts of the world to explore some of these questions together.

The call will take place around November 25th and will be about two hours long. We will try to bring together a diverse group of about 30 participants as we feel confident that we can host a rich conversation with a group that size. Together we’ll see where the conversation takes us and whether we’ll want to leave it there or follow up with more calls, collaborations, …

If you are interested in participating in the conversation, please take a moment to fill out our quick survey. We’ll get back in touch with you later this month!

We are looking forward to connecting!

Much love,

Sara, Ricardo & Theresa
