Dear all I hope you are well.
I wanted to share info about our new Future Focus series, an online programme of critical conversations and exchange, launched during the pandemic, with the aim to explore ideas for a kinder, more considerate world, but also a space for inspiration, support and critical discourse at challenging times. Our new series, Money and Environment, will be exploring how finance impacts on the environment and how it could be potentially reimagined to contribute to the environmental and social agenda. The first session, taking place on Wednesday 2nd December, 5-6pm GMT, is bringing together a great group of speakers including artist, activist and feminist economist Cassie Thornton<http://feministeconomicsdepartment.com/>, artist, researcher, Furtherfield co-Founder and Artistic Director Ruth Catlow<https://www.furtherfield.org/about-us/team/ruth-catlow/>, Assistant Professor of Literature at University of California Santa Cruz Zac Zimmer<https://humanities.ucsc.edu/academics/faculty/index.php?uid=zaazimme>, and Economic Historian and Professor of Early Modern History at University of Manchester Philipp Robinson Rössner<https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/philipp.roessner.html>. The session will explore money production and environmental impact – from the production of silver coins, human labour, colonial mining and extraction of natural resources to the implications of energy consumption in producing crypto currencies – but also the role of art, activism and alternative narratives. The event is free to attend, but booking is required: https://futureeverything.org/event/future-focus-money-and-environment-i/ I hope you can join us.
