We are hosting a live discussion with the artists involved in the current exhibit "Distribution Religion" that will take place simultaneously in Knoxville, Chicago, and all across the world wide web!! The discussion will take place via the magic of video conferencing and online chat. (Art and Education) for Documenta 12 The Art Gallery of Knoxville was asked to participate in an online discussion on the list -empyre- as part of Documenta 12 during the month of January. The topic presented for discussion is "What is to be done?" in regard to Art and Education. The conversation will continue until the end of January - at which point it will be archived and edited for publication through the Documenta 12 Magazine Project. The podcast is FREE and hosts interviews, documentation of talks, and artist videos. The videos added this month preserve something special. With help from the fine people of criticalartware, we are making available three works by video art pioneer Phil Morton. Morton began teaching at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1969 - founding the video department within his first year. He founded the Video Data Bank (one of the premiere archives of video art in the country) in 1972. Along with Dan Sandin, Morton authored the "Distribution Religion" from which our current exhibit is inspired. The entire hour long tape of Morton's video epic "General Motors" from 1976 is now available for download. This Friday - two videos: "Program # 7 (Revised for TV)" and "Program # 9 (Amateur TV)" from 1979 by Phil Morton and Jane Veeder will become available. These are amazing works !! They are critical to the early development of video as Art - and frame the concern of Video Art as a distributed, social tool. These videos will be available for free download on the Gallery podcast by everyone. The show will be on exhibit February 10 - May 13, 2007 and will include artwork by: Joseph Albers, Mel Bochner, Dick Higgins, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Joseph Kosuth, Bruce Nauman, Adrian Piper, and Dieter Roth.
