Hey Marc,
Yes... I'm a champion both... Historically, there have been fruitful
intersections between the two. I'm thinking here of someone like
Harmony Hammond; some of her early work is representative of just
that kind of cross-pollination.

Hi Renee,
Aha, so you mean 'decorative arts' which is not specifically
'feminist' contextually should also be more visible...

wow, that's exciting news! But let's hope the decorative arts
still have a place too somewhere in the museum. Some of my best
friends have been in the decorative arts :-)

Provocative feminist art gets a permanent new home in Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Museum is well known for preserving history—but on
March 23 this borough landmark will actually make history.
On that day, the museum will open the Elizabeth A. Sackler
Center for Feminist Art, the first exhibition and study center
of its kind in the nation.
This “museum within a museum” elevates feminist art to the same
level as other more traditional and widely recognized art movements.
“It’s extraordinary,” said Dr. Maura Reilly, curator of the center.
“This museum has said, like no other museum, that feminist art
is worthy not only of its own exhibition space, but is worthy
of complete intellectual and scholarly recognition.”
“I think retrospectively, this will be considered really, really
pioneering.”
After years of planning, the new 8,300-square-foot facility has
been constructed on the museum’s fourth floor. It takes over
space formerly occupied by decorative arts displays and museum
storage.
