Mai 2007 // 20 JAHRE EUROPEAN MEDIA ART FESTIVAL - DAS FORUM FÜR EXPANDED MEDIA IN EUROPA Der Treffpunkt für Publikum und Gäste aus dem In- und Ausland. Rund 280 neue Medienkunstarbeiten, darunter einige Welt- und Uraufführungen, werden präsentiert. Das Festival zeigt Film als zeitgenössisches Kunstwerk in Kinos, in Ausstellungen, performativ und multimedial. // CINEMA // AUSSTELLUNG // KONGRESS // PERFORMANCES // INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM ---------------- // KONGRESS Unter dem Begriff "D-Fluxx" werden auf dem Kongress unterschiedliche Positionen und Strömungen in der Medienkunst vorgestellt und Themen aus den verschiedenen Bereichen des Festivals aufgenommen. Zum 20jährigen Jubiläum des Festivals stehen neben Bestandsaufnahme und Ausblick auch die aktuelle Positionsbestimmung der Medienkunst im Fokus der Vorträge und Diskussionen. Das inhaltliche Spektrum reicht vom Thema Media Art History, das die Medienkunst in einen kulturellen und kunsthistorischen Kontext stellt, bis zu populären Ansätzen, die sich mit Videoportalen im Internet, der Clip Kultur und der VJ/AV- Kultur beschäftigen. Mark Lewis (CDN): Artist Talk Vortrag zur Ausstellung >Final Cut< Stillstand und Bewegung: In den jüngeren Arbeiten des Kanadiers Mark Lewis steht die durch Kamerabewegungen und Filmtechniken bestimmte Bildsprache des Kinos im Mittelpunkt seines künstlerischen Schaffens. In seinen Filmarbeiten, die mit dem technischen Aufwand einer großen Kinoproduktion entstehen, untersucht er die historische Beziehung des Bewegtbildes zur Malerei und sich verändernde Bildvorstellungen etwa von Landschaftsdarstellungen oder Portraits. Im Künstlergespräch berichtet er über seine künstlerische Intention, die Wahl seiner Mittel und seine gestalterische Umsetzung. DO 26. April 2007 / 18:30 h Ritual + Verführung - Schaulust, Spektakel und Sinnlichkeit im Film Marcus Stiglegger (D) Vortrag zur Ausstellung >Final Cut< Mit vielen Ausschnitten aus bekannten Kinofilmen betrachtet Marcus Stiglegger das faszinierende Verführungspotential des Kinos und dessen Bruch durch die künstlerischen Adaptionen. Die Themen seiner Präsentation sind u. a. "Der Film als modernes Mythenreservoir", "das Spectaculum und die Tragödie des Körpers im fiktiven Spiel des Begehrens" oder "die episch-geradlinige Erzählung und schöne Schlichtheit des Films als wohlkalkulierte global-funktionierende Ware". April 2007 / 13:00 h Die "C.O.H.R."*-Theorie Konstruktion hybrider Realitäten als nicht-lineare, performative Inszenierungsstrategie Rainer Prohaska (A) Präsentation In seinem Vortrag geht Rainer Prohaska der Frage nach, ob durch den Einsatz "elektronisch technischer Medien" neue Darstellungsformen in der Kunst, abseits von "Theater", "Film" und "Cultural Performances", entstehen können. Der Untersuchungsschwerpunkt liegt auf der Überschneidung von "inszenierter Virtualität" und "gelebter Realität" (Liveness), die von Rainer Prohaska als "Hybride Realität" bezeichnet wird. FR 27. April 2007 / 14:00 h Medienkultur braucht Geschichte! Oliver Grau (A) Vortrag Prof. Oliver Grau zeigt einige zentrale Aspekte der Medienkunstgeschichte, die in einem größeren Umfang eine Basis bieten, um eine Evolutionsgeschichte der audiovisuellen Medien aufzustellen. Fr 27. April 2007 / 15:30 h Ein Programm Jean-Luc Godard gewidmet Von und mit Mischa Kuball und Martin Lorenz Präsentation mit Ausschnitten aus Arbeiten von JLG. JLG filmisches Arbeiten lässt sich in zwei große Abschnitte unterteilen: ein Frühwerk, das ihn berühmt gemacht hat und ein noch nicht abgeschlossenes Spätwerk, das ihn unvergesslich machen wird. "Je vous salue, Sarajevo" (Regie: Jean-Luc Godard, 1993): "Denn es gibt Regel und Ausnahme. Die Kultur gehört zur Regel und die Kunst zur Ausnahme. All das gehört zur Regel: Zigarette, Computer, T-Shirt, Fernsehen, Tourismus, Krieg. Nichts gehört zur Ausnahme. Die kann man nicht sagen. ..." FR 27. April 2007 / 16:30 h VJ Audio Visual art + VJ Culture Barnaby Churchill (GB) und Matthias Kispert (GB) Präsentation D-Fuse wird das neue Buch "VJ Audio Visual art + VJ Culture" präsentieren, über die Hintergründe der sich permanent ändernden Stile dieser Kunstform sprechen und Auszüge von VJ-Visuals aus der DVD des Buchs zeigen. FR 27. April 2007 / 17:30 h Videoportale im Internet. Das Fernsehen von Morgen? Bertram Gugel (D) Präsentation Angesichts Millionen von Internetvideos, die zu einem guten Teil von Amateuren erstellt und auf kostenlosen Videoportalen im Internet Angeboten werden, müssen Fernsehen und Filmemacher reagieren. Im Spannungsfeld Fernsehen, Internet und User-Generated-Content gilt es für Sender und Filmemacher sich ein Publikum zu sichern. SA 28. April 2007 / 12:30 h Art_Clips ch.at.de Gerhard Johann Lischka (CH) Präsentation Art-clips sind geballte Einheiten, mentale Konzentrate, kompakte Ideen! Neben den Produkten aus der Werbeindustrie, gibt es die praktisch nie in den Medien gezeigten art-clips, die von KünstlerInnen realisiert werden. Deren Suche nach einer zeitgemäßen Bildersprache für kurze und aussagekräftige Botschaften bewegt sich in einem riesigen Feld optischer Recherche. Und sie kennen nicht die massenmedialen Tabus, die einen verspielten Umgang mit Bild, Text und Ton verbieten. SA 28. April 2007 / 13:30 h Amazon Noir - The Big Book Crime Hans Bernhard und Lizvlx (A) Präsentation Tief in den digitalen Dschungel dringen die Künstler von "Übermorgen" ein, die in ihren provokativen und publikumswirksamen Projekten die Prinzipien des künstlerischen Aktionismus als performative Medienaktionen auf die digitalen Ebenen übertragen. April 2007 / 15:00 h Reflexionsräume kinematographischer Illusion Ursula Frohne (D) Vortrag zur Ausstellung >Final Cut< Das "Kidnapping" von Kinofilmen und ihre entfremdeten Re-Makes stehen im Mittelpunkt des Vortrages. Mit der Reproduktion durch die Kunst verschiebt sich die Filmwahrnehmung für den Zuschauer. Das Suggestionspotential des Kinos verliert sich im Raum der Reflexion. Sa 28. April 2007 / 16:00 h "Was sind die neuen Paradigmen in der Medienkunst?" Roundtable Moderation: Jens Hauser(F/D), Kurator und Kunsttheoriker Teilnehmer: Annick Bureaud (F), Gerhard Johann Lischka (CH), Zhang Ga (USA/CN) Wenn wir die Entwicklung der Medienkunst betrachten, dann kann der Focus heute nicht mehr überwiegend auf die nicht mehr ganz so neuen digitalen Medien gerichtet sein, welche stets auf ein zentrales Dilemma analog-digitaler Schnittstellen stossen: das Problem der Übersetzung. Die Round-Table-Debatte wird u.a. der Fragestellung nachgehen, welche Wellenbewegungen sich an der Medien-Kunst-Geschichte analysieren und in die nächsten Jahrzehnte projizieren lassen. Sa 28. Around 280 new works of media art, including world premieres, will be presented. The festival shows film as a contemporary work of art in cinemas and exhibitions, both performed and using multimedia. // CINEMA // EXHIBITION // CONGRESS // PERFORMANCES // INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FORUM ---------------- // CONGRESS Under the term "D-Fluxx", various different positions and topics in Media Art will be introduced at the Congress, and subjects will be taken up from all of the elements that make up the festival. Besides taking stock and giving an outlook on Media Art, the current determination of the position of Media Art will also be the focus of talks and discussions at the 20th anniversary of the festival. The contents range from the subject of Media Art history, which places Media Art in a cultural and art historic context, to popular approaches that deal with video portals on the internet, the clip culture and the VJ/AV culture. Cinemas fascinating potential of seduction and its break by the artistic adaptation of motion picture films and their remakes will be discussed in lectures at the festivalŽs exhibition. Mark Lewis (CDN): Artist Talk Lecture on >Final Cut< exhibition Standstill and motion: in the latest works by the Canadian Mark Lewis the visual language of cinema, determined by camera movements and film techniques, is the focus of his artistic creations. In his films, which are shot with the technical effort of a large cinema production, he investigates the historical relationship of moving images to painting and changing concepts of images. THU 26 April 2007 / 6:30 p.m. Ritual + Seduction - Curiosity, Rumpuses and Sensuality in Film Marcus Stiglegger (D) Lecture on >Final Cut< exhibition With numerous excerpts from well-known motion picture films, Marcus Stiglegger considers cinema's fascinating potential of seduction and its break by the artistic adaptation. The subjects of his presentation include "The film as a modern reservoir of myths", "The spectacular and the tragedy of the body in the fictitious game of desire " or "the epic-straightforward narration and beautiful simplicity of film as a well-calculated globally functioning good". FRI 27 April 2007 / 1:00 p.m. The "C.O.H.R."*-Theory Construction of hybrid realities as a non-linear, performative setting strategy Rainer Prohaska (A) Presentation In his talk, Rainer Prohaska looks into the question of whether new display formats can arise in art through the use of "electronic, technical media", apart from "theatre", "film" and "cultural performances". The main focus of his investigation lies in the overlapping of "staged virtuality" and "lived reality" (liveness), which Rainer Prohaska calls "hybrid reality". FRI 27 April 2007 / 2:00 p.m. Media Art Needs History! Oliver Grau (A) Lecture Prof. Oliver Grau shows several important aspects of media art history, which provide a basis for an evolutionary history of audiovisual media. JLG's cinematic works can be divided into two large sections: an early work that made him famous and an as yet incomplete late work that will eternise him. "Je vous salue, Sarajevo" (director: Jean-Luc Godard, 1993): "There are norms and exceptions. Culture belongs to the norm and art to the exception. All these things belong to the norm: cigarette, computer, T-shirt, television, tourism, war. Nothing belongs to the exception. You can't say what they are. ..." FRI 27 April 2007 / 5:30 p.m. Video portals on the internet. The TV of tomorrow? Bertram Gugel (D) Presentation In view of millions of internet videos, the majority of which are made by amateurs and offered on free video portals on the internet, television and film-makers have to react. It's up to the broadcasting stations and film-makers to secure an audience in the conflict area of television, internet and user-generated content. SAT 28 April 2007 / 0:30 p.m. Art_Clips ch.at.de Gerhard Johann Lischka (CH) Presentation Art clips are concentrated units, mental concentrates, compacts ideas! In addition to the products from the advertising industry, there are also art clips, made by artists, that are rarely shown in the media. Their search for a contemporary visual language for short and informative messages manoeuvres within an enormous field of optical research. And they are not aware of the taboos of the mass media that prohibit a playful exposure to image, text and sound. Among other things, the roundtable debate will look into which wave movements can be analysed on the basis of the Media Art history and projected into future decades.
