How do you carry your political feelings, and how do you want others to carry theirs? Feel Tank and its collaborators map the affective expressions of various publics to reveal hidden histories and create new ones. Feel Tank Chicago, a collective, acts as a counterpart to think tanks. Through objects, performances and activities, organizers Lauren Berlant, Debbie Gould, Mary Patten and Rebecca Zorach describe the landscape of political emotion and ask viewers to discuss their feelings, big and small, about politics.

Unmarked Package: A Case for Feeling Insecure

By the Institute for Infinitely Small Things
Video editing by Mike Hall & Nicole Siggings

In May 2007, the Institute toted hundreds of unmarked packages (marked "UNMARKED PACKAGE") around Chicago sites including the South Side, Daley Plaza, Millennium Park, Little Village, Douglas Park and Hyde Park. At each site, the Institute interviewed members of the public about anxiety, insecurity and fear in public spaces and produced a video research report with the results. Watch it at the Pathogeographies show or, in a few weeks, check it out on YouTube.

Using performance and conversation, we investigate social and political "tiny things". These have included corporate ads, street names, and post-9/11 security terminology. The Institute markets dissent through its research reports in the form of maps, books and videos. This interdisciplinary group has a varied and open membership.
