Benieuwd naar EXPERIMENTELE FILMS en videos uit het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika? Volgende week donderdag kun je je hart ophalen met een selectie films die net zo divers is als de landschappen en culturen van het Midden-Oosten en Noord-Afrika. Of we nu geconfronteerd worden met de verloren tijd bij checkpoints en grensovergangen in Palestina; geanimeerde Islamitische patronen die dansen op een funky beat; of dat we worden vergast op een Frans-Algerijnse cocktail waar nationale identiteit en herkomst (on)gemakkelijk samenkomen...al deze films stellen veronderstellingen over de Arabische wereld ter discussie en weigeren in een hokje geplaatst te worden. Dit is een speciale sneak PREVIEW van de compilatie “Resistance[s] 2: experimentele films uit het Midden Oosten and Noord-Afrika”, vanaf oktober 2007 verkrijgbaar via het lowave label (http://www.lowave.com/). As varied as the landscapes and cultures of the Arab world are, so is its visual production. Whether we are confronted by the time suspended of checkpoints and border crossings in Palestine; animated Islamic patterns accompanied by a funky beat; or an Algerian – French cocktail where East meets West, and issues of national identity and heritage blend (un)easily…these works each question and challenge assumptions about the Arab world, and resist pigeonholing. This is a special SNEAK PREVIEW of the “Resistance[s] 2:experimental films from the Middle East and North Africa”compilation, which will be released in October 2007 on the lowave label.
