"The Beasts in our Brain: Making a Virtue of Necessity,"

Please join Dr. Neil Greenberg, Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary
Biology
at the University of Tennessee - this Friday to discuss "The Beasts in the
Brain"
at the Art Gallery of Knoxville, 317 North Gay Street on Friday October 5th
at 9PM.
The gallery is located across the street from Regas Restaurant.

The talk will be held in conjunction with the current exhibition
The Association for Creative Zoology
curated by Beauvais Lyons of the Hokes Archives.
(The exhibition will continue through October 27th.)

Dr. Greenberg's research interests include the evolutionary background
to ethics and aesthetics, the biology of creativity, disorders of belief,
and
the effects of subclinical stress. He is a fellow of the American
Association
for the Advancement of Science and a member of several academic
organizations, including the Society for Neuroscience, among others.

The exhibit is comprised of a facsimile of a kiosk that was first
presented by the Association for Creative Zoology in July of 1925
during the trial of John Scopes, a high school teacher charged with
teaching the Theory of Evolution in violation of the Butler Amendment,
a recent law passed by the Tennessee Legislature.

On Saturday July 21, 2007 on the Rhea County (Tennessee) Courthouse
lawn the Hokes Archives first presented the facsimile kiosk. The event
coincided with the 20th Annual Reenactment of Trial of John Scopes,
held each July in Dayton.

Formed in 1908, the Association for Creative Zoology asserts that
creation is far too complex and beautiful to result from a random
process of natural selection. Instead, they posit that species
variation has resulted from the direct hand of God, who not only
creates flora and fauna whole-cloth, but uses previously existing
creative works as the building blocks for creating new species. This
explains the common attributes of many plants and animals and is
reflected in the principle of "zoomorphic juncture." Beauvais Lyons
will be present during the exhibition reception to explain divine
creation according to the Association.
