BA (Hons) Interactive Media for the Arts (iMA)*
The University of Glamorgan, Wales would like to announce an exciting
new course, BA (Hons) Interactive Media for the Arts (iMA), which
will be run from the ATRiuM, a state of the art building in Cardiff
which opened in November 2007, from September 2009.
This is a course for people who are excited by interactive media arts
and want to engage with it through creative practice. Exploring the
emergence of new media over the last century and as a result the
merging of many art and media practices, the course will offer a
unique interdisciplinary approach which foregrounds creative use of
interactive media in a variety of ways.
Supported by a team of practicing artists you will undertake a number
of exploratory and experimental projects covering screen based work,
installation, networked and mobile media, performance and sonic
arts. Students will be encouraged to think and work across
disciplines and to understand the possibilities of combining media
and diverse forms of practice. Visits to galleries, festivals or
live events both at home and abroad will be integral to the course.
Year one
You will receive introductory practical skills in the principal
elements of interactive media including static and moving digital
imagery, digital audio and code and explore these in a number of
creative projects. Practical work will be supported through creative
research skills, new media theory and a choice of art or media
focused contextual studies.
Year two
You will continue to explore interactive media through increasingly
challenging creative projects, which investigate topics including
networks, virtual environments and pervasive media while advancing
your skills with interactive media. Practical work will continue to
be supported with new media theory and art or media focused
contextual studies.
Year three
You will specialise in a relevant area of your own choice and produce
a substantial piece of individual work as part of a practice based
module or a practice-based module in combination with a
dissertation. Practical work will continue to be supported with new
media theory culminating in a theoretical work in written or
practical form. Addition modules in practice and preparation for
industry will allow students to identify potential careers and
further study.
