Sorry for the group mailing - I found the following tapes today - it's my
mother with a group of women, talking about another trip to meet with refusniks
in the USSR. the sound quality is poor, the tapes twenty-five years old, but
the voices are haunting to me. My mother was, I think, a problematic zionist,
believing in a jewish Israel, opposed to Israeli expansion. We didn't talk
about it; it was painful. But I was proud of her trips, through Hadassah, which
included meetings with the first lady of Egypt, among other people. She lived
most of her life in the small town of Kingston, Pennsylvania; it was a stretch
to Leningrad.
