technological perspectives. The artists will engage the audience in a
conversation about their findings while video clips from their projects
stream in the background.

Perry Bard is an artist living in New York . She works individually and
collaboratively on interdisciplinary projects for public space. She has
exhibited video and installations internationally, in New York at
the Museum of Modern Art , P.S.1 Museum, Sao Paolo Biennial, Montreal
Biennial, Reina Sofia Museum Madrid . Her project Man With A Movie
Camera: The Global Remake creates a platform for participation, inviting
people around the world to remix a 1929 film which belongs to world
cultural history. It won Honorary Mention in the Digital Communities
category at Ars Electronica ’08. It was presented at Transmediale ’09,
File ’09, Media Forum at Moscow International Film Festival ’09, and
Doclab at IDFA '09. Man With A Movie Camera has also been installed in
museums, galleries and on public screens worldwide. The work has
received numerous grants including a NYFA Award in 2009.

Lenore Malen uses the lens of history and humor to examine utopian
longings and the sciences and technologies that inform them. Working
across diverse media she creates historical restagings that incorporate
subjects such as Mesmerism, the social structure of ideal and imaginary
communities, and most recently the social organization of the beehive.
A native New Yorker, she has exhibited in NY, Berlin , Paris , and
Venice . In 2005 she performed as Doctor Mesmer for the BBC. An
installation Harmony As A Hive was recently on view at Wesleyan
University and the EcoArt Center , NYC. Her film The Animal That I Am
was screened at the RIW Semiotics-Media Conference, University of
Michigan in March 2010. Malen received a Guggenheim Foundation
Fellowship and a NYFA grant in 2009.

“Perry Bard and Lenore Malen are 2009 Artist Fellowship recipients of
The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA). This presentation is
co-sponsored by Artists & Audience Exchange, a NYFA public program.”

Initiated in 2004, the Artist Dialogues provide a forum for
understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. Artists are paired
with critics, curators, writers or other artists to converse about art
and the potential of new ideas.
